Godzilla didn't even matter to the overall storyline, you could insert any other giant monster and have it mean just as much. It was just an excuse to engage in human hatred. We're to blame, it's all our fault and we deserve it. The ending reminds me of that craptacular ending from nu-Battlestar Galactica.
